There were few analogs (in quality) among vst plugins, so keep a list of the best. Naturally, not everyone will agree with me, but this selection has worked well. When Pickup mode is turned off, adjusting a fader modifies the parameter immediately (which can result in parameter value jumps).Greetings, colleagues! I have selected the best, in my opinion, plugins from the company Universal Audio. Once you have matched the onscreen values, deactivate Pickup mode and start automating. Your device may feature a display (usually a pair of arrow LEDs) that indicates the direction or distance you need to move the controller, in order to match the settings shown in Logic Pro (also known as NULL). This prevents sudden jumps of parameter values caused by playing back automation. In Pickup mode, the controller must reach (“pick up”) the current value before the value starts to change. Such control surfaces usually offer a Pickup mode. Some control surfaces, typically those without motorized faders or knobs, do not show parameter changes-caused by playing back existing automation data-on their interface. "… Pickup Mode checkbox: When selected, the control surface operates in Pickup mode (if this mode is available). The value will immediately change if the controller is sending general midi info. If you don't like it you can leave it unchecked. In Logic, the 'pick up mode' doesn't wake up anything, instead it doesn't change any values until the controller value matches the parameter value. But obviously, you then lose the advantage of being able to see the plugins value. The only negative to this method is that you have to have the track in focus that you are affecting as it's a two-way communication as the screen is updated to reflect the plugin state, although you can go in to a general midi mode and control parameters via Logic's 'Learn' feature - meaning you can affect plugins on tracks that are not in your active selection. Not to mention the power to control logic from it if you're setting up automation etc, you can change the marker points on the fly if you're trying to perfect specific regions of the project. ![]() I prefer a controller like this as they display the parameters on the screen of the hardware itself as you select a track or plugin so it's clear which device you have control of at any given time. Personally i really like the Nektar Panorama keyboard controllers (second option above) as not only can you control elements but also navigate logic tracks and song positions etc., however they also do a P1 model (No keys) which has 9 faders and 8 rotaries and 8 pan knobs (+1 additional motorised fader) which can all be automapped/assigned to plugins - you can page between the rotaries to control many more parameters too. Standard midi controller combined with Logic's super 'Learn' modes. You can use a 'smart' controller/control surface type device that will read the control surface mappings and interact directly with the plugins, this provides feedback from the plugins so you can view their status as they come in to focus in Logic.ģ. It's also very quick to map on the fly, and saves with the channel strip.Ģ. As the smart controls keep their mappings to your external controller you know which knob etc. Is to use the smart controls in logic, where you can map x number of controls and they are then fixed to the same midi CC messages which you can set up to align with any standard midi controller - This is very powerful as you can use track stacks and adjust multiple plugins within the stacks via one set of smart controls. As long as the third party plugins publish their controls to logic (Most do, although i've come across virtual instruments from Arturia in the past that don't for example), Logic will be able to act as a bridge from a midi controller through to the plugin.ġ. ![]()
